In this late linocut from before 1920, after which the artist ceased making linocuts, Horace Brodzky favors solid outlines and broad passages of white paper more commonly associated with line drawings. This stylistic format recalls the woodcuts of William Nicholson (see Accession no. 1967.116.19). Nicholson was a prominent British graphic and children’s print designer in the first decade of the 20th century, and certainly an artistic figure known to Brodzky.
