Two Warriors reproduces one of Polidoro da Caravaggio’s most exceptional compositions, a Roman palace fresco which influenced artists such as Sebastiano Ricci and Giambattista Tiepolo. Many copies after the fresco attempted to mimic the painting’s monochromatic chiaroscuro style. Venturini’s print, however, privileges line over effects of light and shade. This technique yields a highly legible reproduction in which all elements are described with equal clarity.
