Today considered one of the Midwest’s foremost self-taught artists, Aldobrando Piacenza immigrated to the United States from Italy as a teenager. Later in life, he turned to art as a way to remember his native land. He filled his home with his materialized memories, painting murals of the Italian countryside inside his modest house, and covering his lawn with birdhouses modeled after famous Italian cathedrals.
