BiographyDawoud Bey is an American photographer and teacher.

Bey studied at the School of Visal Arts in New York and received is BFA from Empire State College in 1990 and his MFA from Yale University School of Art in 1993. His subjects are primarily adolescents and he works to produce community-focused and collaborative photographic pieces. His work has been shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Walker Art Museum, and the Smart Museum of Art, to name a few. He has also been the recipeint of numerous fellowships and awards, including, most recently, the Genius Grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 2017. He is currently a professor and Distinguished College Artist at Columbia College Chicago.
