On viewMore than any other image or symbol, Westermann drew and carved hearts to express his love for his wife. These intertwined hearts are carved from a single block of wood, a craft tradition that indicates the inextricability of two lives from one another. The inscription on the right heart reads "1969/ JOANNA MY/ LOVE" while the other reads "CLIFF/ 1969," accompanied by a small image of a boat on the water.
