This sketchbook, one of seventeen in the Smart Museum's H. C. Westermann Study Collection, contains compositional studies, clippings, detailed technical notes, and printing and distribution lists for The Connecticut Ballroom suite of woodcuts produced by Westermann in 1975 and 1976. The detailed studies and production notes are invaluable resources for understanding Westermann?s working methods and artistic development. They reveal an artist who is very careful about his process and craft while remaining extremely playful with his cultural references and compositional elements.
