Description

Based on a Greek myth, this bronze depicts the infant Hercules wrestling with a snake that was placed in his crib by the vengeful wife of Zeus. This bronze is nearly identical to another by Alessandro Algardi, of whom Anguier was a pupil. While it clearly derives from Algardi’s design, it reinterprets various anatomical and descriptive details.
