Description
This religious or possibly mythological figure drew inspiration from Renaissance Florentine prototypes, which in turn referred to classical Greek and Roman models. The realism of the figure’s spiraling pose, his body twisting upwards while his garments flutter around his feet and his wings vigorously flap, creates a sense of motion and speed. The object’s verisimilitude fed the illusion that both the figure as well as the past could be brought back to life.
