Not on viewSol LeWitt’s approach to artmaking was based on the premise that the artist acts as a catalyst for work that anyone (the artist included) may complete or realize physically.
He once wrote, "For each work of art that becomes physical, there are many variations that do not." The essence of LeWitt’s work is clearest in the print showing a small version of the 16 permutations that make up the complete series (bottom right) with the "rules" for the project. What we can see here is only a minute sample of the possibilities framed by LeWitt’s initial idea. Though his instructions seem specific, the phrase "drawn at random" allows for infinite permutations.
