Not on viewThe Forum Boarium, or cattle-market, was the oldest market of ancient Rome, situated alongside the Tiber River. This view by Jean-Baptiste Lallemand demonstrates his special interest in the effects of light reflecting off Rome’s waterways. Lallemand’s pictures tend to be broad atmospheric evocations, where distant views of "official" monuments are often juxtaposed with foreground figural groups bearing just a touch of the naïve.
