Not on viewArturo Herrera is known for work in a variety of media, including small collages such as these and also large-scale, site-specific wall paintings. Whatever the medium, Herrera slices, dices, and combines familiar images to create new partially abstracted forms that hover between the appealing and the deeply unsettling. Here, he culled pages from pulp coloring books and reworked their energetic lines and Disney-infused imagery into tight new works that grapple directly with the legacy of Modernism. These collages are part of a set of thirty; the others are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Hammer Museum at UCLA.
