Ann HamiltonAmerican, b. 1956

Ann Hamilton is a visual artist internationally acclaimed for her large-scale multimedia installations, public projects, and performance collaborations. Her site-responsive process works with common materials to invoke particular places, collective voices, and communities of labor. Noted for a dense accumulation of materials, her ephemeral environments create immersive experiences that poetically respond to the architectural presence and social history of their sites. The two art to live with piece are test prints for the large-scale installation titled "aeon" in the Grand Reading Room of UChicago’s Mansueto Library. The installation features translucent images of ancient artifacts from Iraq and Egypt, which Hamilton captured using a flatbed desktop scanner and a handheld wand scanner during a residency at ISAC in 2018.
