Cloud Rock and Kayo 4 Years Old occupy facing pages within the 1 Cent Life portfolio. Both images express Francis’ interest in color over form. His works here, and elsewhere in the portfolio, show an exploration of the relationship between color and space. There is a stark contrast between subject and background which makes the unpainted areas as essential to the composition as the paint itself.
