Hendrik F. Schaefels

Biography
A native of Antwerp, the landscape and marine painter Hendrik Frans Schaefels studied with Jakob Albrecht Michael Jacobs (called Jacob Jacobs, 1812–1879). Alongside vast Salon paintings of Romantic subjects, which were in vogue at the time, Schaefels also produced more modestly scaled Dutch landscapes, market scenes, and canal views. He is noted for his contributions to the etching revival in Antwerp.
