In 1922 the almost intact tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun was discovered. Its contents wowed the world and led to a revived period of "Egyptomania." Scientists, writers, architects, and artists were fascinated with the otherworldly nature of this bygone era, as evidenced here by Armenian artist Hakop Gurdjian’s slender and partially nude female figure who sits proudly upright while wearing the crown of ancient Egyptian royalty.
