Serge Poliakoff
Russian, 1906–1969
BiographySerge Poliakoff was extremely popular in his day, and is considered by many art historians to be one of the most important fully abstract painters. However, in the 1970’s he fell out of the public eye and decades passed without his inclusion in any major exhibitions. A 2013 retrospective exhibition at the City of Paris Museum of Modern Art sparked a renewed excitement in Poliakoff. Time has allowed us to reconsider Poliakoff’s lasting influence on the field, to re-examine his oeuvre with a fresh perspective, and to be surprised again by his colorful and arresting abstract forms.
