BiographyGordon Parks was a 20th century American photographer and the first African-American staff photographer for Life Magazine. This photograph is from the 1963 Civil Rights march on D.C., at which Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famed “I Have a Dream” speech. Parks offers a unique perspective on the event, showcasing the mass of spectators that crowd the National Mall instead of Dr. King.
