Richard Hull
American, b. 1955
BiographyRichard Hull teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He calls his current collection of paints, drawings, and prints “stolen portraits,” taking a quasi-figurative direction. Hull is a known lover of improvisational jazz, which consists of solo melodies superimposed on a bass chord progression; this is reflected in the looping forms of the central figure of Spud on a bed of dynamic texture.
