Annette Hur

South Korean, b. 1984
BiographyAnnette Hur is a New York-based Korean painter and printmaker, although she lived and worked in Chicago when this work was produced. Hur’s works question roots and culture, the role of the female immigrant in contemporary American society, and the indecisiveness that often accompanies the impulse to assimilate. In Self-processing Theory the curvaceous, yet muted forms defy two-dimensional description and suggest an evolving psycho-social identity. In Untitled, Hur juxtaposes geometric forms with a soft, textured background, suggesting gentle, flowing movement.
