Eleanor Coen

BiographyEleanor Coen was one of the major 20th century artists who trained at the School of the Art institute of Chicago. Her prints, many of which depict Chicago urban life, were well-received, winning numerous local and national prizes. Coen was the first woman to win the James Nelson Raymond Traveling Fellowship; she went to Mexico and was greatly influenced by the styles and colors of mural painting. In the period following this trip, Coen experimented extensively with colored printmaking. She is known for color lithography, examples of which are on view here.
