BiographyMaria Helena Vieira da Silva began her formal artistic training at the age of eleven. After attending Lisbon’s Academia de Belas-Artes, she studied in Paris where she spent most of her life, ultimately becoming a French citizen. In 1966 she was the first woman to win France’s Grand Prix National des Arts. She often worked in a restricted color palette, such as in Verte, which is composed of just three colors.
